The Highlands Experience
A densely-packed trip providing more in-depth tequila knowledge. Delve further into the world of tequila, exploring both the Tequila Valley and Los Altos (the highlands region) where most of today’s premium tequilas are made. This trip is divided equally between the Tequila Valley (Tequila, Amatitán, El Arenal) and the Highlands (Arandas, Atotonilco El Alto, Jesús María).
The Highlands of Jalisco are the “other” tequila region. The red, iron-rich soil and cooler climate mean the agaves take longer to grow and once matured are larger and sweeter than their valley counterparts. The region has taken off in the last 10 years, and most of the exciting new premium tequilas are made here. We visit 5 distilleries in both the Highlands and Valley, and will have the opportunity to taste and discuss tequila with the owners and distillers themselves.
